3RD WEEK JANUARY, 2010 (18TH - 23RD)

SQUIB DIARY

MONDAY 18TH JANUARY 2010
Was at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Onikan High Court. For a matter that did not go on. Courtesy of the absent prosecutor.
Later went to the Court of Appeal. For a matter that went on, Guess what, at 4.00p.m!
One would have flown to Madagascar in the morning and come back and still caught up on the case.
This is a story for another day I guess

TUESDAY 19TH JANUARY 2010
Was at the Lagos High Court, Igbosere. Specifically in the Chief Judge’s court. What a full court. Well almost full. Saw a brisk, efficient if hard hand at work. An interesting court, I tell you. Much to my relief the suit that was already struck out, was resuscitated by the court.

WEDNESDAY 20TH JANUARY 2010
Was at the Ikeja High Court. For a matter. The matter went on but not after some drama and anxious-moments. The commendable flexibility and understanding of the judge saved the day however even though I was teased in the process by milady sorry, milord!

THURSDAY 21ST JANUARY 2010
Was at the Ikeja High Court. Before my favourite judge. Yes that calm judex. By the way, who is your favourite judge? Did my case and left. Spent the rest of the evening at a pleasant haunt, geckoing seriously.

FRIDAY 22ND JANUARY 2010
Was at the Ikeja High Court. Then ‘sailed’ to Victoria Island in search of money. Came back to Ikeja and saw the Disciplinary Committee of the NBA Ikeja branch at Work. In the “Temporary” Secretariat of the Tiger Bar.

SATURDAY 23RD JANUARY 2010
Was at the Police College. For the Tiger Bar Sports Programme.
Dozens of other people also there, engaged in diverse sports, games and exercises. There were some sights that you could not but marvel at like that of a track suited trekker I saw marching all over the place. What abundance! What a spread! What an upheaval! Haba! “Ile Eru!” If a devout Muslim had seen what I saw, he would have certainly intoned “Allahu Akbar,” while a devout Christian would have exclaimed, “Glory be to God on High” and a Yoruba traditionalist, “Iba tooto Iba!”

The three Tigers who turned up enjoyed themselves thoroughly.

2ND WEEK DECEMBER '09 (7TH-12TH) LAST ENTRY FOR 2009!

SQUIB DIARY

MONDAY 7TH DECEMBER 2009
The Squib’s out. Cover story:- “WHOSE HEAD WILL ROLL IN ENUGU”. Had two matters at the Ikeja High Court before going for the monthly meeting of the Tiger Bar.
It was a historic meeting, for it would be the last ever monthly meeting the NBA Ikeja branch in the bungalow.
Come January 1 2010 the building would have been pulled down to make way for the new secretariat of the Tigers-a 3 story building.

TUESDAY 8th DECEMBER 2009
Was at the Lagos High Court for a matter. Saw Mrs. Hairat Balogun, former chairman Body of Benchers in a silk gown. Though only Senior Advocates of Nigeria can put on the silk. Or is the madam a silk, unbeknownst to me?
Must ask mama, one or two questions when next I see her.

WEDNESDAY 9th DECEMBER 2009
Left for Enugu today. For the NBA NEC meeting. In the well known charger of the NBA Ikeja branch - our 42 Seater Bus. With some other Tigers. A tilapian, Squibese for any member of the NBA Lagos Island Branch came for a ride with us. Likewise some of our children (NBA Ikorodu) from Ikorodu branch.
What a jolly ride. Jokes and ‘gists’ all the way. At Awka, comforts in skirts floated into our bus. Tigers love meat you know.
The most impressive town on the way to Enugu was Onitsha. For the wrong reasons - filth, bad roads and traffic jams.

THURSDAY 10th DECEMBER 2009
The NEC meeting of the NBA held. From 9:00am to 8:00pm. Break for two hours 2-4.00pm. All the motions and talks about impeachment of the President (Rotimi Akeredolu) and General Secretary (Ibrahim Eddy Mark) fizzled out. In fact no motion was moved or discussed. Courtesy of the “family affair” approach of dealing with the intra Exco dispute between the President and the General Secretary. (For details see the cover storyhttp://www.squibcoverstory.blogspot.com and learn further about the “Okpoko-ised solution)”

FRIDAY 11TH DECEMBER 2009
Left Enugu for Lagos, with other Tigers and our guests from Ikorodu and Lagos.
This return journey was easier and faster than the visiting. Arrived Lagos 6.56pm. And straight to the exacting arms of that ardent mistress Squib. She must be gotten ready for the outing next week.

SATURDAY 12TH DECEMBER 2009
Barrister Seyi Olawunmi, Chairman of the Young Lawyers Forum, Ikeja branch got married today. So many Tigers and Tigresses there. Was there too. In spirit.
