4TH WEEK JANUARY 2010

SQUIB DIARY

MONDAY 25TH JANUARY 2010
The Squib’s out Thank God. The second in the year. Cover story HON. CHIEF JUDGE, IS SOMEBODY ‘CHOPPING’ THE MONEY? http://squibcoverstory.blogspot.com/2010/01/hon-chief-judge-is-somebody-chopping.html
Came to the Ikeja High Court. For a criminal matter. Matter could not go on as neither prosecution or prosecutor’s witness were in court.

TUESDAY 26TH JANUARY 2010
Was at the Lagos High Court. For a matter. The matter, went on. Ealier on in the morning was at the Federal High Court for the case of Adesina Ogunlana vs Nigerian Bar Association. The case did not go on. No respondent or respondent’s counsel in court. No papers from the respondents. Wonderful. Case adjourned to March 3 2010.

WEDNESDAY 27TH JANUARY 2010
Watched on the T.V. at the Bar centre of the Tiger Bar, the piping of Nigeria’s so called Super-Eagles 1-0 by Ghana Senior Football Team (the Black Stars). Though sad, was very pleased. Becase a ragtag team led by a visibly dejected looking coach like Shuaibu Ahmadu had no business at big competitions like Africa’s Nations’ Cup or the World Cup.

THURSDAY 28TH JANUARY 2010
Came down to the Lagos High Court Igbosere. For a case. Shortly after ‘jetted’ to the Maximum Security Prison. To see two or three clients. Visitors to the Maximum place now restricted to about two hundred metres to the gate of the prison, while waiting for permission to meet with inmates.
The reception is nothing more than a dusty ground and the inadequate shade of two far apart trees.
Wonder how people would cope when the rains come.

FRIDAY 29TH JANUARY 2010
Was at Ikoyi in the afternoon. Pursuant to a court order. Finally extricated myself from the tangles of lawyers and their curious arts and managed to escape back to the mainland by 5.00pm. Spent an hour or thereabouts in the offices of AELEX. Nice, big place. Met an old friend there. Made new friends there. Hope the friendship will endure when we ‘claw’ at each other in a few weeks time in court.
Privileged to see a letter granting ‘amnesty’ to the publisher of an obnoxious magazine, standing that charges against him at Golgotha would be withdrawn.
Surprisingly the fellow concerned was referred to as a ‘gentleman.’ Query: if he was a gentle man, why the amnesty?

SATURDAY 30TH JANUARY 2010
No sports programme today for the Tiger Bar. Because of the Environmental Sanitation Day curfew (7-10.00 a.m).
With some Tiger Chiefs-Dave Ajetomobi (chairman), Isa Buhari (secretary), Adebamigbe Omole, Adewale ‘prof’ Ademola, attended a colleague’s (Ehiakham Raymond Akoko) wedding reception. Barrister Akoko earlier in the day got wedded to Lydia Mareen Okonofio at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 44/48 Cole Street, Ikate, Mushin, Lagos.
